Exceptional, top quality professional painting of cute scene featuring young mom in cozy interior prepared for child bathing. In the recent past, bathing children was a rather laborious procedure: first you had to heat the water in a container, then make the water at the right temperature, bathe and wipe the baby, pour the water out of the bath, wipe the wet floor. All this required the participation of two or even three adults in the ceremony of bathing a child. As a rule, babies love bathing and calm down in warm water, but there are exceptions. The artist perfectly conveyed all the excitement and fear in the eyes of a baby who looks with horror at a bathroom with water. Perhaps these emotions are dictated only by his fear of the unknown, and in the future he, like most kids, will love bathing... Interior details are very natural and interesting. Painted on canvas in oils likely in UK in late 19th – turn of 20th century, unsigned. There is pencil inscription “Alberg, Nybrogatan 51 or 57” on stretcher, this is probably an address in the old part of Stockholm.
