François Theodore Rochard (1798 – 1858) “The Pet Dog”, french, watercolourist, painter, draftsman, miniature painter. Born in Paris, exhibiting at the RA from 1820, brother of the portrait painter Simon Jacques Rochard (q.v.). Represented in National Portrait Gallery with 5 works. Provenance: Former property of Miss Mary K. Scott, secretary to Sir Richard Wallace and sister to Sir John Edward Arthur Murray Scott, 1st Baronet of Connaught Place (1847–1912), British art historian and collector. He is often referred to as John Murray Scott. He is best known for his role in the formation of the Wallace Collection. Formerly of the Wallace Collection. Purchased at Robinson & Foster on 15/5/1943 lot 98 by last owner. Antique watercolor painting on paper, framed.
