It was Yngve Westerstrand who set up a watchmaking workshop in 1906, before that he had worked for his father, Gustav, as a watchmaker. The company started as a watchmaker in a premises at Kungsgatan 4. Yngve Westerstrand started making replacement parts for watches. After a while he started making tower and station clocks. In 1936, the manufacture of wall clocks and pendulum clocks started. Westerstrands was the first factory in the country to produce pendulum clocks. A large factory building was erected in 1941 at Skövdevägen, along the western main line. The company manufactured timers for sports halls, central clock systems, switch clocks and more. Parts for carillons were also manufactured, for example for the cathedrals in Drammen and Visby, the old town hall in Kiruna and others. Westerstrands Urfabrik went bankrupt in 1983.
