Signed: L. Lombard, French professional painter, 19th century. Thise work resembles that of Barbizon landscapes popular for plein air in mid - 19th century between academic painters. These landscapes were characterized by their realistic portrayal of nature, capturing the essence of the outdoors with remarkable precision. Lombard, like many academic painters of his time, embraced this style and added his own touch of brilliance to create truly awe-inspiring paintings. One of the defining features of Lombard's work is his exceptional skill in oil painting on canvas. This technique allows for a rich and vibrant color palette, enhancing the visual appeal of his landscapes. Lombard's attention to detail is evident in the intricate depiction of the trees, capturing their unique character and texture. The painting's size and frame further enhance its presence, making it a remarkable addition to any art collection. Antique oil painting on canvas, signed, framed.

Louis Lombard (Paris, 1831 - ?), A nineteenth century French artist and etcher, Louis Lombard studied art in Paris under Gleyre. His work was regularly exhibited at the major Salons during the 1860's. Although a fine landscape and figure painter, Lombard became best known for his original etchings, particularly those that dealt with scenes and studies of Spain. In both 1862 and 1863 the Societe des Aqua - Fortistes commissioned Lombard for his etchings dealing with this country. "Le Borriquero, Espagne" (The Donkey Keeper, Spain) is a brilliant example of Lombard's art of Spain. While his life beyond the realm of art is shrouded in uncertainty, his contributions to landscape painting are undeniable. Lombard's ability to capture the essence of nature and evoke emotions through his brushstrokes solidifies his place among the professional painters of the 19th century.
