Louis Lombard (Paris, 1831 - ?), A nineteenth century French artist and etcher, Louis Lombard studied art in Paris under Gleyre. His work was regularly exhibited at the major Salons during the 1860's. Although a fine landscape and figure painter, Lombard became best known for his original etchings, particularly those that dealt with scenes and studies of Spain. In both 1862 and 1863 the Societe des Aqua - Fortistes commissioned Lombard for his etchings dealing with this country. "Le Borriquero, Espagne" (The Donkey Keeper, Spain) is a brilliant example of Lombard's art of Spain. While his life beyond the realm of art is shrouded in uncertainty, his contributions to landscape painting are undeniable. Lombard's ability to capture the essence of nature and evoke emotions through his brushstrokes solidifies his place among the professional painters of the 19th century.
