Ivar Naumann studied at the Academy of Fine Arts 1862-1867, and also worked as an illustrator in "New illustrated magazine" in 1888 and their project "Det Stockholm som går" where they figuratively wanted to preserve the old parts of Stockholm that would provide space for, among other things, the Esplanade system. Naumann devoted himself mostly to landscape painting where the same theme often recurs, ie old-time environments that were about to disappear in the era of industrialism. A large part of the production consists of Stockholm motifs, not infrequently from Djurgården where he also lived, and from the archipelago and Stockholm's other surroundings. Ivar Naumann is represented at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Stockholm City Museum and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
