London instrument laboratory of James Swift was founded in 1857, Traded at 43 University St., Tottenham Court Rd., London (1876-1880s) & 81 Tottenham Court Rd. (1881-1910s), earlier as James Swift (1853-1876) with later partnership with son, James Mansell Swift, in 1880s, By 1914 had become a limited company, 1946 they merged with Adam Hilger and Watts & Son Ltd thereafter doing business as Hilger & Watts Ltd. Known for its microscopes and its photographic lenses. The microscope is signed in script to the foot J. Swift 43 University St, London W. C. and is not numbered that leading us for earlier 1860 s dating. N.B: everything you may see on pictures being sold as one lot.
Pretty good condition, cosmetically the microscope is quite used but good shape with normal to heavy age and usage wear to the lacquer. Mechanically and Optically it wasn’t tested but looks operable. Major age and usage wear. Please study high-res pictures for cosmetic condition! In person actual item may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Case height approx. 30,5 cm (roughly 12 in) and instrument is app. 52 cm standing (roughly 20,5 in). The case has wear and losses. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition.
