Very well executed mid-18th century artwork, rather oil study, depicts resting family sheltering from the scorching midday sun in grotto shape arch in ruined part of town. Mother feeding the child and the man sleeps deeply. It is difficult to say whether they are travelers passing through, or if they are people without a permanent place to call home. The composition of the painting is carefully thought out, with the grotto arch framing the family and drawing the viewer's eye towards them. The muted color palette and soft lighting further enhance atmosphere of the scene.
Overall, the painting is a testament to the talent and skill of the unknown artist who created it. From the attention to detail and the use of color to the overall composition, every aspect of the painting reflects a high level of professionalism and mastery. Antique oil painting on wooden panel, framed.
