Early 19th Century Empire Romantic Portrait Noble Young Lady in Blue Oil Canvas ^Sale

This charming portrait, executed in oil on canvas in the early 19th century, represents a fine example of Romantic portrait art from the Regency era. In its artistic manner and compositional design, the canvas closely echoes the painterly traditions of the renowned Anglo-American master Thomas Sully (1783-1872) and the British School and the circle of Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830). The secret of this work's appeal lies in the painter's ability to lend the image a remarkable inner harmony. In the smooth turn of the head, the soft blush upon her white skin, and the barely perceptible half-smile, the character traits of the heroine can be clearly read: her tender soul, purity, and nobility. Masterfully employing a colour palette built on a combination of deep, saturated tones and the finest nuances of light and shadow, the artist gives the scene living volume and airy depth, paying particular attention to detail. This portrait will undeniably become a gem of any discerning collection and fill the interior with an inimitable historical charm, bringing to us across the centuries the poetry of the Empire era.
