Alexander Nikolaevich Volkov-Muromtsev (January 23, 1844 - May 21, 1928). After graduating from high school, he entered the mathematical department of the University of Dorpat , which also included the departments of chemistry, botany, agriculture and technology, as well as others. He was engaged in chemistry, physics and botany, received a diploma in agronomy and continued his studies at the University of Heidelberg, where he defended his doctoral dissertation on the effect of light on chlorophyll. He painted watercolor landscapes, interiors of temples and palaces, portraits and genre scenes in an academic salon manner. Most of the works are kept in private collections. He signed his paintings with the pseudonym Roussoff, participated in many exhibitions in different countries. Among the Russian admirers of his talent was P.M. Tretyakov, who bought for his collection his watercolor "Purchased" (1892).
