19th Century Victorian Romantic Foothills Landscape Oil on Canvas Signed Framed ^Sale

This painting from the second half of the 19th century, executed in oil on canvas and signed "H.J. Johnstone", is attributed to the British artist Henry James Johnstone (1835-1907), a member of the Society of British Artists. The composition captures a serene corner of the British foothills, from whose hilltop a magnificent view opens onto a mountain valley in the distance, with the peaks of picturesque mountains melting into a blue haze. The panoramic format of the canvas and the meticulously painted foreground create a sense of spaciousness. The deep tones of the foliage contrast effectively with the delicate shades of the sky's expanse, while the subtlest nuances of light play softly upon the branches and the surface of the water, enlivening the entire scene. This lyrical landscape will become a worthy adornment to any collection and will fill the interior with the atmosphere of Victorian era Romanticism.
