19th Century Swedish Rococo Style Poetic Garden Scene Oil Canvas Signed Nehrman ^Sale

This theatrical genre scene, painted in oil on canvas in the late 19th century by the renowned Swedish lithographer, painter and draughtsman John Alfred Nehrman (1860–1936), is skilfully stylised in the form of a tondo, organically fitted into the square format of the canvas. Against the backdrop of an idyllic rural landscape, a young couple, attired in exquisite historical costumes of the Rococo era, rests upon a wooden bench in the shade of a spreading tree. Beside the gentleman, upon the soft grass, a basket of freshly gathered flowers has been left, underscoring the pastoral character of the subject. Artist: Signed by the renowned Swedish artist John Alfred Nehrman (1860–1936). On the reverse there is a blue stamp of a Swedish framing workshop reading: "Denna inramning är isolerad med SYRAFRI KARTONG 1991-08-20 AB FRANSSONS GLAS". This indicates that on 20 August 1991 the painting underwent professional conservation reframing with the use of acid-free (archival) board at the workshop of AB Franssons Glas.
