17th Century Antique European Cylinder Padlock Ornate Hand Forged Iron Long Key ^Sale

This padlock is an example of antique blacksmithing craft, born in an era when locksmithing was still only in its infancy, and every part was forged and fitted by hand at the smith's forge. The massive cylindrical body is assembled from several tightly compressed rings; on one side is a large shackle ring on a concealed hinge, and on the other, an elongated conical shank with an eyelet for fastening or carrying. Such forged padlocks were widespread throughout past centuries and today represent a rare collector's item of the lost art of handmade blacksmithing.

Dimensions (approx): 25.7 cm long (10.1 inches), 5.9 cm diameter (2.3 inches).
Medium: The body and all components are made of hand-forged iron.
Condition: Overall in good, well-preserved condition with normal usage and age wear. Long Tongue key is stuck.
